One is Britain’s longest running radio soap, the other is a brooding Mancunian with a luscious quiff. They could be set to combine as Morrissey has been offered the chance to appear on BBC Radio 4’s ‘The Archers’.
The former frontman of The Smiths is apparently ‘fascinated’ by the opportunity but there has yet to be any confirmation either way as to whether or not his voice will be gracing the fictional Ambridge hills.
Morrissey could follow in the footsteps of Tour De France winner Bradley Wiggins, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Margaret by appearing on the show. This also wouldn’t be the first time that he ventured into the world of soaps; back in 1988 Morrissey appeared in ‘Brookside’ spin-off ‘South’ in which he featured as himself and kept true to his cavalier, nonchalant attitude.
Only time will tell in the matter of Morrissey’s second venture into the world of soaps but the Mancunian singer appears to have missed a trick by not opting to appear in his native Coronation Street. Nevertheless, a storyline about his vegetarianism would surely fit in well with the general themes that make up the world of ‘The Archers’. Perhaps they could even get him to sing along to the theme song…
