In what may be one of the simplest PR stunts in popular music history, Liam Gallagher spelt out OASIS through a series of tweets yesterday evening which sparked rumours of a potential reunion of the Mancunian band.
Beginning at 6.30pm yesterday, Gallagher used his twitter account to ever-so-slowly tweet out ‘O-A-S-I-S’ before sending a final tweet of ‘OASIS LG’ just after 9pm. Since splitting in 2009 in between their 2 headline performances at V Festival, speculation has been rife that the band would reform before too long – although this has been strenuously denied by the former band members.
With Liam having gone on to have some limited success with his new band Beady Eye, alongside former Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell, his brother Noel took the opportunity to let his High Flying Birds fly free.
Though many have been keen to jump on the speculating bandwagon, radio host Andy Goldstein claimed (via twitter) to have spoken to Noel about the possible reuniting of Oasis to be met with the reply “There’s more chance of me and my ex-wife getting back together” which would suggest that one of the Gallagher brothers is not particularly keen on returning to the stage with his former bandmates.
Betting has apparently already been suspended on the band reforming for Glastonbury 2014 and many fans are already excited despite there being nothing more than Gallagher’s tweets to fuel the flames. Whether or not Oasis will reunite is yet to be discovered, however, Gallagher’s tweeting has certainly caused quite a stir amongst music fans worldwide.
