The BBC planned to broadcast a celebration of Glastonbury this June. The plan came came after the unfortunate cancellation of the festival, following the government’s measurement to block the widespread of coronavirus. Glastonbury 2020 was previously scheduled to take place on June 24-28.

Amidst such coronavirus turmoil, the BBC still wished to bring entertainment and happiness to people. According to NME, the BBC—as the festival’s major coverage provider—announced that this June, the celebration of Glastonbury would be broadcast in hope to bring the festival to home regardless of the virus chaos.

Collaborated with the Eavis family, the BBC issued a press release about their upcoming project. See the full statement in the post below.

Meanwhile, the Eavis’s spoke of the cancellation: “Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week–and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty–this is now our only viable option.” They also told that the cancellation was the “viable option” in this crisis.

However, tickets purchased for this year’s festival can be used for next year.

There were a number of exciting artists booked to perform at the festival this year with the likes of Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift.
