Cult pop legend Kate Bush has announced today via her official website that she will be returning this year for her first live performances since 1979. After 35 years since her last live show, Bush will be performing 15 live shows at London’s Hammersmith Apollo starting on August 26th.
The singer, best known by many for her somewhat strange video for her single ‘Wuthering Heights’, returns with a show entitled Before The Dawn in which many are expecting to hear a catalogue of her most popular and well-known songs. Her choice of venue is based upon the final venue of her 1979 tour; which turned out to be Bush’s first and only tour. After six weeks of travelling around with a cavalcade of music, magic, mime and poetry Bush felt a “terrific need to retreat” and subsequently withdrew from live performances. As she was only 20 at the time her withdrawal from live performances after this point could be put down to the daunting amount of pressure that was immediately thrust upon her.
After a prolonged period of musical silence, Bush refused to rule out a return to performing live during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row in 2011. She has also since been awarded a CBE for her services to music and released her most recent album ‘50 Words For Snow‘ 3 years ago.
Tickets for all dates go on sale on Friday 28th March.
