Adele partied at a friend’s wedding last weekend, where she officiated and performed a few songs. Then, to everyone’s surprise, she announced to the room “Expect my album in September”. Luckily for fans, the moment was caught on camera.

Both the singer herself as well as her manager have been hinting at a new album for months, with Adele posting on her 31st birthday in May 2019, joking: “30 will be a drum ‘n’ bass record to spite you”. In an interview with Music Week, manager Jonathan Dickins said that new music will come out in 2020, “the sooner the better”.
No details of the album have been confirmed at this point, but the internet is full of rumours – fans have had 5 years to come up with theories! That’s right, Adele’s last album, ’25’, was released in 2015, with her previous two in 2011 and 2008. Given that every album title was decided by the artist’s age at the time of writing, many are guessing that the next album will be ’30’ or maybe even ’31’.
Some fans have heard reports that Adele has worked on tracks with Harry Styes, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj – all of these are believable given her friendships with the artists, but definitely not confirmed. At least we know the wait will be over in September, and hopefully the official release date will be announced soon.
At one stage, it was even speculated that the ‘Someone Like You’ singer may have retired from performing live after the final shows from her last tour in 2017 were cancelled due to health reasons. We’ll have to wait and see, but it appears that with three years to recover mentally and physically from the challenges of touring, Adele is ready to take to the stage again.
She certainly seemed happy to be performing live again at the wedding, even if it was karaoke. Guests were treated to a performance from the star, including her own hit ‘Rolling in the Deep’. Other songs were covers from Adele’s favourites, Spice Girls and Beyoncé, with backing from a live band.

The singer and song-writer attended the BRIT School when she was a teenager, signing with XL Recordings after graduating in 2006. Her first album, ’19’ came out two years later and reached number 1 on the UK Charts. Since then, Adele has achieved tremendous success with her soulful voice and lyrics, winning the Academy Award in 2013 for her song ‘Skyfall’, written for the James Bond film of the same name. She is the winner of nine Brit Awards and an incredible total of 15 Grammys out of 18 nominations, sweeping best album, song, and record of the year for both ’21’ and ’25’.
