Electronic singer/songwriter Låpsley has announced the release of her sophomore record Through Water. Along with the album announcement comes with new single “Womxn” and its video. The album will drop on March 20 through XL Recordings.
It has been over five years since the debut album Long Way Home. The songstress from Southport, Merseyside has finally returned to the music scene with the second studio album titled Through Water, which is set for the release in March.
“Womxn” is served as the first single taken from the album. The track entails the single’s emotional struggle during her hard times and how she came to empower herself with the strength of being a woman. Låpsley unravelled the story behind “Womxn” on her social media:
“I was 20 and in a pretty bad place when I wrote “Womxn”. It’s written hypothetically from a place in the future that was much more positive. It’s about having trust in the passage of time; about not knowing what to do right now but knowing that at some point you will know. And here we are in the future and I’m this stronger, more confident womxn, and I sing it and it’s my present.”
The video of “Womxn” is, according to NME, directed by Jane Stockdale. The clip features cyclists Anneleen Bosma, Jenna Meth and Yewande Adesia venturing in the midst of a hailstorm while Låpsley is singing and dancing in the setting of the Yorkshire Moors. Listen to the track and watch the video below.
Apart from the track, the 23-year-old singer also shared the album cover and tracklist. There will be ten tracks on Through Water, two of which—”My Love Was Like the Rain” and “Ligne 3″—are already surfaced as parts of the These Elements EP that was released back in December last year. As regards the upcoming album, Låpsley wrote an extensive note on the post about the meaning of the album title: “Through Water. My second LP will be released on the 20th March. I have been working on this record for 2 and a half years and I can’t wait to share this music with you. It has been difficult, feeling like I’m constantly either sailing at high speed or sinking to the bottom of the sea; with my relationships, with my artistry, with my contribution to the world around me and my thoughts around the future and the environment. This is an album about the darkness and the light. The highs and the lows. To be submerged in the centre of it all. To be through water.”
