Back in July 2017, the London-born artist debuted his very first record What Do You Think About the Car?. The album was charted at number 11 on UK Albums Chart, with many hit singles like “Brazil“, “Humongous“, and “Paracetamol“. What Do You Think About the Car? rewarded him with impressive achievements, including Artist of the Year from BBC Music Awards in 2017 and many appearances at big music festivals such as Glastonbury and Coachella.
After taking a short break from the music scene, McKenna released a highly political track “British Bomb” earlier this year. The “Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home” singer was interviewed by NME about the track, saying that “British Bomb” was intended to take jabs at the British military:
“”British Bombs” is a tune I wrote about the hypocrisy of the British arms trade and the weapons convention in London. I think too often it’s implied that matters in the world are too complex to not end up with war, or to not possess and sell weapons, and I just think it is pure bullshit.”
McKenna also furthered that the song was about his “outright” disagreement over war: “I wanted to write a song that was outright against war, in any form. Violence breeds violence and I just don’t think the world is too complex to set a peaceful precedent, but it seems the business of war is what keeps happening. To say it’s a shame feels like a huge understatement.”

While preparing for the release of the sophomore LP, McKenna will appear at This Is Tomorrow next year. The festival will be held at Newcastle in May from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 24th. McKenna will play on the second date, with Sam Fender as the headliner of the day. Tickets are on sale now via its official website.
