Bring Me The Horizon have released an official lyric video for their new track ‘Ludens’, from the collective soundtrack to the ‘Death Stranding: Timefall’ video game. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Major Lazer & Khalid,  Au/Ra x Alan Walker, The Neighbourhood, Flora Cash, MISSIO and The S.L.P, including a titular track from Chvrches.

Directed by Hideo Kojima and published by Sony, the upcoming PS4 production stars The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus and Hannibal lead Mads Mikkelsen. It is due out on November 8.

Speaking to NME, frontman Oli Sykes talked about the track. “It doesn’t sound like anything off ‘amo’, but it doesn’t sound like anything off any of our records,”

“It hits a different tone. We had to write it in five days. We’ve been talking about this with Sony and Kojima for quite a while. I was really excited because I loved Metal Gear Solid and Kojima is just my favourite developer, he’s a legend. All of the legal shit was going on to the point where we like, ‘This isn’t going to happen’.

Oli explained how ‘Ludens’ came to be as they toured Eastern Europe, saying, “We set up a studio in hotel rooms every day and churned this song out. It was fucking mental, to be honest. I didn’t even know where to start. I was like, ‘What the fuck am I going to sing about?”.

“I wanted it to be connected to the video game, but I didn’t want to sing directly about that. I looked at Kojima’s whole ethos, went on his website, and as it was loading it came up with this thing that said, ‘We’re not homosapiens, we’re homoludens”.

‘Ludens’ is the first musical release from the Sheffield heavy metal band since they released their acclaimed sixth album ‘amo’ earlier this year. It was awarded a five star rating on NME. “It’s proof alone that this band can do what they want and get away with it. There’s nothing as exciting as a surprise that pays off. It ain’t rocket science, it ain’t heavy metal, it’s just class songwriting.”
