La Roux has returned with, ‘International Women of Leisure’, her first new material in five years. The track is the first to be taken from her upcoming new album, ‘Supervision’.
La Roux, the stage name of singer Elly Jackson, accompanied her comeback track with the announcement of a brand new album. Jackson is set to release her upcoming album, ‘Supervision’, on the 7th of February 2020, which is available for pre-order here.
Jackson’s new track, ‘International Women of Leisure’, has been described as “an anthem about not taking anymore shit”, a playful riposte to the debonair lifestyle of male privilege.” The video for the track, ‘International Women of Leisure’, which has been directed by Nova Dando-directed.
La Roux’s comeback announcement was also accompanied by news of a world tour, in 2020, with tickets going on sale, on the 6th of November 2019, at 10am. The announcement comes as La Roux is scheduled to play a gig, in London, at Fabric, on the 6th of November.
Speaking to DIY, after the release of her 2015 album, ‘Trouble In Paradise’, Jackson, said: “Whatever my next record is, I’d really like to practice what I preach essentially. To not just say all of this but – I shouldn’t say this as it’s setting myself an enormous task! – but to just do it and make a record that is… I’d like it to be more earthy. I’d like it feel more organic, but not in an acoustic guitar [way]. There won’t be any acoustic guitars or anything like that in it!
“I want it to be more earthy, more organic and we want it to be bigger and it’s definitely going to be more soulful. I’d like it to feel more raw and not try to be so perfect and so shiny, in a way. I think music’s gotten so shiny… So, hopefully, we’ll see what happens in the next year.”
La Roux, was originally a two-piece, but Elly Jackson is now the sole member, following the departure of Ben Langmaid. Langmaid’s exit from the band was announced ahead of the release of the last La Roux record ‘Trouble in Paradise’ in July 2014.
