English producer Aphex Twin is set to play the prestigious Printworks club on September 14. Richard David James, who performs and produces music under the stage name of Aphex Twin, will be live streaming the show at the London venue onto Youtube. Tickets for the show, in collaboration with the Red Bull Music Festival were sold out within ten minutes of going live. This show is set to be the producer’s first gig in the city for a decade. The stream is set to be broadcast from 1opm.
The show will feature a custom built stage, kitted out with 306 LED panels and lasers, including visual effects provided by a collaborator of Aphex Twin’s, Weirdcore. Aphex Twin’s set will be exclusively live streamed, whereas his supporting acts Afrodeutsche, Caterina Barbieri and Nihiloxica, will not have their sets broadcast.
The live stream will be available at the Youtube link on the night of the performance at Surrey Quays Road, as seen below.
The last time Aphex Twin performed at a club night in the capital was during a DJ stint at Matter in 2009, now defunct. His last gig in London was at Field Day in 2017. Artists such as deadmau5, The Black Madonna, Nina Kravitz, Moodymann, Jeff Mills and Bugzy Malone have all played at the Canada Water Venue. In June this year, Warp Records reached it’s 30th anniversary milestone, celebrating the occasion with a three day ‘online festival’, which featured Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Brian Eno. The festival was titled ‘WXAXRXP’.
Richard recalls in an interview with Resident Advisor a time where Kylie Mingoue and Madonna made an unexpected appearance at the Soundshaft venue, where he called the experience “surreal”, saying, “Yes, Kylie turned up once and Madonna”
He added. “Highlight of that night for me was my slacker mate trying to chat Kylie up… Funny and surreal af.”
