Sam Fender has released a new single, ‘The Borders’, prior to the release of his debut album on September 13, entitled ‘Hypersonic Missiles’. The debut effort from the 25 year old, distributed through Polydor, has already spawned numerous singles including ‘Play God’, ”Leave Fast’, ‘Dead Boys’, ‘That Sound’, and more recently, ‘Will We Talk?’.
It can be listened to through Spotify. Fender remarked about the latest release in a Twitter post, acclaiming, “This is my favourite song on the album! Big love everyone! Hope you like it!”

In a press release for ‘The Borders’, it details the personal importance that the track serves in Fender’s life, “At once deeply personal, traumatic even, Sam tells a story of two boys growing up together and then going their separate ways,”
The release goes on to say, “Memories inferred but not directly addressed. It’s a storming tune with a powerful story, as so many of Sam’s songs are.”
In March, Sam made his debut appearance on US television with a spot on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ and ‘Dead Boys’.
Toward the end of September, Sam is set to play in a supporting role to Liam Gallagher at an intimate Radio X Presents gig, a homecoming show at the 02 Ritz on September 21 for the former Oasis member, a day after the release of his second solo album, ‘Why Me, Why Not?’. ]
The show will also mark Liam’s 47th birthday. Liam recently released the music video for ‘One Of Us’, from his forthcoming record, filmed by Anthony Byrne, a director from BBC One’s Peaky Blinders.
Fender was crowned winner of the 2019 Brits Critics’ Choice Award 2019, which in previous years had been won by artists including Adele, Sam Smith and Florence & The Machine. He beat competition from the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Mahalia this year.
In winning the award, Fender said. “I am truly humbled to win The BRITs Critics’ Choice Award. Being nominated was crazy enough, never mind winning it. I’m so grateful to everyone back home for believing, and to my band and team for all their hard work. We’ve played literally hundreds of shows this year, and we’re going to go even harder in 2019.”
He said further: “Most importantly, a big shout to my fans. I’ve met a lot of you over the last few years and it’s truly an honour to get up and play night after night to such a wonderful bunch of people. To everyone who’s taken a punt on me so far, thank you. Here’s to next year!”
