Pete & Bas have released their seventh single entitled ‘Pint And A Fag’ and as the title suggests, this track is a dedication to beer and cigarettes. Already doing numbers, this OAP duo first jumped on the scene last year with their single ‘Shut Ya Mouth’ which instantly became a viral hit.
Known for their old school gangster vibe and Kray Twins-like persona, this video proves no different. Here, the pair smoothly ride this jumpy grime instrumental reinstating their creditability on the streets. The braggadocio bars along with their no f**ks given style solidifies their seriousness as grime artists, “I walk proud, talk loud with my chest out”. With crazy metaphors within their lyricism, Pete & Bas are definitely giving these young rappers a run for their money, “Take the head from his body like a Lego man” and don’t mistake their age for weakness as Bas raps, “You can get the back of the hand, big back doors and I’m smashing them down.”
A track based around ‘smashin’ cans’ Pete & Bas gives us an insight on what a typical night on the town is like for them and the lads. Shot on the streets of London the pair exhibit their antisocial drunk behaviour by shoplifting, excessive drinking and smoking on public buses. Draped in three-piece suits and dancing in the streets, these suave old-timers look like they’re reliving their youth and showing these youngsters how it’s done.
If not internationally, then Pete & Bas are definitely the oldest rappers to come out of the U.K. Despite their age, their distinctive delivery along with hard bars, heavily influenced by cockney rhyming slang has listeners in awe at their ability to effortlessly flow over gritty grime beats. They are still regarded to as newcomers on the scene but have already opened up for Octavian at his London show and been featured on Barclays’ advertisement drawing awareness to the danger of handing out bank account details over the phone, an issue which mainly targets the elderly.
