Liam Gallagher makes a return with his brand new single, ‘Shockwave‘, the first single announced from his new album, entitled ‘Why Me?, Why Not’, a first in two years since his opening debut.
It is set to be released by Warner Music on the 20th of September, now available for pre-order through his official website, with the album’s release set for a day before his 47th birthday.
Liam has collaborated with multi-award winning Francois Rousselet, the director for his latest music video, which depicts the former Oasis frontman, strolling through a crowd of demonstrators in the middle of a protest, intercut with tracking shots of him walking away from a burning building, complementing his heavy and brash rock ‘n’ roll sound that we’ve come to know and love from Gallagher.
Liam tweeted the album’s new title last month, responding to a fan who’d asked him if this were true, to which he responded, “It is indeed”.
The release date for the album was revealed soon after the unveiling of the documentary, ‘As It Was’, a film directed by Charlie Lightening. The documentary details a decade of trials and tribulations in music, to Liam’s comeback on the scene in 2017, and the release of his first solo album, the critically and commercially successful, ‘As You Were’.
Posting on Twitter, Liam shared a photo of his son Gene playing bongos in a studio, indicating that he’ll be featured on the new record, saying “Gene laying down some bongos on my new tune as you were LG x”.

Speaking to NME, Gallagher also revealed he had spent a week in Los Angeles “with my army of songwriters”, and when asked about an upcoming gig in Union Chapel on December 13th, Gallagher hinted of new material being premiered.

Spinning the clocks forward into this year, during a gig at Hackney’s Round Chapel, on June 5, Gallagher surprised his attending fans by playing straight into “Shockwave”, the first time it had been heard.
It seems without a doubt then that Liam is preparing for a big comeback with his second solo effort, in the hope to create literal shockwaves with the successor of ‘As You Were’. ‘Shockwave’ is a big, triumphant return to the stage for Liam, and so if history serves us correctly, then it’s shaping up to be a big year for the former Oasis frontman.
