Irish rock band, The Murder Capital have announced details of their hotly anticipated debut album, ‘When I Have Fears’, which has been given an August 2019 release date. The band’s much anticipated debut album will be, released on the 16th of August 2019 via Human Season Records, available on gatefold colour LP, black LP, as part of a limited bundle (gatefold colour LP, t-shirt, pin & journal), CD and as a digital download and can be pre-ordered here.
The album, ‘When I Have Fears’, is produced by Flood – who has worked with the likes of PJ Harvey, New Order, and Foals – the album features both singles from the band to-date, which includes ‘Feeling Fades’ and ‘Green & Blue’. The quintet’s breakthrough track, ‘More Is Less’, also features on their debut album. Regarding their single, ‘Green & Blue’, The Fader has described it as “epic”.
Continuing, they said: “There’s little air in “Green & Blue,” with a steady bass rumble filling the space with an unbearable tension. Icy guitars stab through the murk but only add to the pressure building throughout. James McGovern’s imposing vocals then take centre stage as he sings about love and death, promising to “correlate the blue the green and blue the green for you.”
The Irish five-piece is made up of frontman James McGovern, Damien Tuit, Cathal Roper, Gabriel Paschal Blake, and Diarmuid Brennan. Following sell-out shows on their April/ May tour, the group have also announced a new string of UK & European headline dates for October and November 2019, which can be seen in full below. Tickets for this tour will go on sale this Friday.
The Murder Capital have been going from strength to strength since last year, when they were tipped to do great things, without having released a single track. Breaking onto the scene with a live recording of, “More Is Less”, which went viral on YouTube, the band have been carving a name for themselves. The group have done things the old fashioned way, keeping releases to a minimum and touring relentlessly, has seen them built a formidable reputation.
In just over a year, they have sold out shows in their hometown of Dublin, to 400 people, played with the likes of Slaves, Shame, IDLES and fellow countrymen Fontaines DC and seen the likes of NME, Loud & Quiet, Dork, and DIY back them – with The Irish Times calling them out as Ireland’s best new rock band.
The Murder Capital’s debut single ‘Feeling Fades’ and its follow up ‘Green & Blue’, the band have fulfilled their early promise, which was to deliver two propulsive slices of post-punk. In one of their rare interviews to-date, the band have stated they are driven by the genuine desire to affect cultural change, and when frontman James McGovern repeats the lyric “the now elapsed ’round you and me, and it kept us all together”, on ‘Feeling Fades’, you start to believe that they’re capable of achieving just that.
