Slowthai has taken to Instagram and Twitter to make a huge announcement surrounding his upcoming tour. In a personal video posted on his Instagram story, slowthai revealed that tickets to his tour will only cost 99p! Naming it ‘The 99p Tour. On top of this, he has encouraged fans to sign up to his website and the suggest venues he should perform.
The self-proclaimed ‘King of Northampton’ has taken 2019 by the reins already, after the release of his debut album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ in May earlier this year. In the video announcement he makes that the upcoming tour is not about money, but about his fans, stating “I will go to the working mans club, or your old mans favourite gaff”. Slowthai, real name Tyron Frampton, has accumulated a strong following edging closer to 100k followers on Instagram by the day.
After being named The Guardian’s ‘One to Watch’ in September 2018, he has since received a widespread of outstanding reviews. His music is masked with humorous video’s and a loud, room-filling personality, but it often addresses much deeper issues within society, making a mark in grime. His track ‘ladies’ addresses the idea of toxic masculinity, a brave decision made by a young male artist who finds himself on the stepping stones to an extremely triumphant music career. The video for his track ‘Gorgeous’ was released last week.
Since the start of his career, Frampton has integrated his strong political views both in his lyrics and his show. “When I say fuck, you say Theresa” is one of his many chants regarding his distaste to British politics at the minute, which of course makes it very clear where his opinion lies. The honesty he lays bare in his lyrics project a refreshing light into the music industry, following the likes of Stormzy, and an idol of Slowthai’s, Eminem. In a recent interview with Fader on YouTube, Frampton says that “you have to be honest, you have to state things how you see them”.
Recently, Slowthai has promoted his album on billboards across London. Scattered all over the city, the billboards display simple, political messages in aid of his album release later this year. ‘Nothing Great About Britain’, the albums title, is in small print underneath messages such as: ’78% of large companies in the UK pay men more than they pay women’ and ‘Boris Johnson is described by his fans as humorous, intelligent, charismatic and clever’. This is a powerful strategy, conveying not only the problems Slowthai sees in our society, but the messages that can be found in his new music.

“The 99p Tour’ is set to be a massive success, with fans going crazy on social media in the last 24 hours. Frampton encourages fans to provide him with locations to perform stating “I’m trying to go to the places that no one ever goes…I just wanna see all of you and connect”. This will not be the first time that Slowthai will be touring, as he is currently supporting Dave on the sellout ‘Psychodrama Tour’ throughout April and May.
