British/Turkish singer, song-writer and producer, Gazel has revealed a headline show, in London, this May. The rising singer, who blends a mix of genres and cultures to create a unique sound, will perform, at Paper Dress Vintage, in London, on the 1st of May 2019. The announcement comes ahead of Gazel’s performance at Sound City, in Liverpool, on the 4th of May 2019. Tickets are available now and can be purchased here.
Gazel is set to perform tracks from her forthcoming debut album, ‘Gazel’s Book Of Souls’. According to Wilful Publicity, “the shows promise to be an immersive visual and sonic spectacle featuring a transcendent mixture of music and spoken word elements which complement the narrative of the album.”
The performances follow an incredible show, at St Pancras Old Church, in London, in February. Having previously performed sold-out shows at venues including the Borderline, The Waiting Room and Birthdays, Gazel’s forthcoming shows are set to be a unique experience, for fans, and a performance that should not to be missed.
Ahead of the release of her debut album, ‘Gazel’s Book Of Souls’, the singer gave fans a glimpse of the forthcoming album by sharing two singles, ‘Pointing At The Moon’ and ‘Mina’s Hymn, from the album. The release of the singles came after Gazel was included in Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Longlist for 2019.
Speaking about her first single, ‘Pointing At The Moon’, from her forthcoming album, Gazel, said: “The title ‘Pointing At The Moon’ is from a text by the Indian mystic Osho that talks about mistaking symbols for reality,”explains Gazel. “The song is about how looking for meaning in life will always get you stuck in a trap of words. This stripped back version is the first time I’ve recorded a song of mine acoustically and I really enjoyed singing and playing violin on it.”
Speaking about the meaning behind her single, ‘Mina’s Hymn’, and the video that accompanies it, Gazel explained: “Mina is an elderly widow, one of six characters that appear in Gazel’s Book of Souls. Mina watches memories of her youth through a window in the open desert where she has sat for centuries, fixing mankind’s eyes on the past. In our video, Gazel confronts Mina for the first time, only to find the face looking back at her is strangely familiar. Directed by Glen Travis and Sam Hooper, for this film we enjoyed using a surreal and ambient style to reflect our story, as the barriers between dreams, visions and reality begin to crumble.”
Gazel’s hotly anticipated upcoming debut album, ‘Gazel’s Book Of Souls’, “follows the story of Gazel, who seeks to find the cause of a mysterious fire which destroyed her village, and in the process encounters a variety of ‘souls’ who dwell in our collective unconscious, each of which is represented by a different track on the album.” The album adopts influences from both her eastern and Middle-Eastern roots, which produced a unique blend of electronica, folk and pop.
