A new piece of musical genius from producer/singer Michael Gabriel has appeared, following the release of Rorrim, a track designed to grab ahold of your ears and ring around for days on end.
A euphoric fusion of all things grunge, hip hop and dubstep, it sounds like it shouldn’t work. But it does. Oh my it does. If you threw all those genres into a blender, mixed it up and sprinkled a bit of Michael Gabriel’s musical mind on it, you get Zaphonic, an innovative mind bender of a group. It will keep grungers happy with the riffs that could bring Snowdon to it’s feet. It will entice hip hop fans with a route into new directions they might not have visited before. It will have dubstep fans bopping up and down until their heads are bloody from banging into their knees so often. It has something from all walks of music, and will keep you coming back for more.
The video for Rorrim takes you on a warped journey where Gabriel is locked in a bedroom with a young lady, looking into an invisible mirror (which if you’re clever enough will have spotted where the song title comes from). Along the way are a collective of manic faces, including a child who would look more at home in The Ring or some equally sadistic horror film. It fits tremendously well though, with a lot of credit having to go to the director of the video, Andy Wooding, for making it all flow so comfortably.
You’d be a fool not to check out the video for Rorrim below, as soon enough Zaphonic will be all over the UK underground circuit, leaving a mess wherever they go. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Watch this space for details of their upcoming album, which is sure to bring the underground to a crashing halt.
