Charli XCX is set to star in a new A24 film, titled ‘The Moment’. While the story is unknown, an exclusive report from Variety has said the film is based on the musician’s own original idea. She will co-produce through her production company Studio365.
‘The Moment’ will be directed by Scottish filmmaker Aidan Zamiri, in his feature-length directorial debut. It will also be scored by A.G. Cook, a longtime collaborator of Charli and the head of the now-closed PC Music label.
Now, XCX has eight projects on the big screen coming soon, including a role in ‘The Gallerist’. The film will follow a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead man at Art Basel Miami. Other stars to appear include Jenna Ortega, Natalie Portman, Sterling K. Brown and Zach Galifanakis.
A24 have been lauded as an entertainment company for their genre-bending, innovative and artistic films, such as sci-fi comedy-action ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, folk-horror ‘Midsommar’ and coming-of-age drama ‘Moonlight’.
Other musicians to appear in their films include Kid Cudi, who starred as an adult film star in the slasher film ‘X’. Megan Thee Stallion also starred as a confident boss in raunchy musical comedy ‘Dicks: The Musical’.
It was reported in November that Tyler, the Creator will be making his feature film debut in a new movie titled ‘Marty Supreme’. The A24 film will be directed and co-written by Josh Safdie, who also directed ‘Uncut Gems’ for the company. Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet will also star. According to Variety, the movie was inspired by professional ping pong player Marty Reisman.
Alongside her film commitments, Charli XCX is set to have a busy 2025. She’s been confirmed as the first headliner for Manchester festival Parklife, and will do the same at LIDO Festival, where she’s also curated the line-up on the day she performs.
She’ll also be playing two huge outdoor shows in Ireland, perfoming at Coachella, and headlining Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto. She also has a US arena tour scheduled for April and May.
The ‘360’ hitmaker is also leading the nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards, gathering 5 nods including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Dance Act and Pop Act. You can read our coverage on the upcoming awards show here.
