The Scissor Sisters have ended their hiatus to announce a 2025 UK tour to accompany the twentieth anniversary of their 2004 debut self-titled album. The reunion tour will feature three of the band’s original lineup – Jake Shears (Jason Sellards), Babydaddy (Scott Hoffman) and Del Marquis. However, founding member Ana Matronic will not be taking part due to focusing on other projects.
Scott ‘Babydaddy’ Hoffman disclosed to the BBC the exciting nature of the upcoming tour, he revealed: “It gives us an opportunity to do things in kind of a different way… Not to replace Ana in any way, but to get some people on stage and ask some friends to do fun things”.
The announcement of next year’s tour follows twelve years of the Scissor Sisters’ indefinite hiatus, which was first declared back in late-October 2021 during their gig at Camden’s Roundhouse, whilst touring their fourth album, ‘Magic Hour’.
The ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’ group are set to perform at many major cities across the UK, including London’s prestigious O2 Arena.
When speaking to Independent about the reunion tour, Shears added: “I’m always a big dreamer, and I still dream big”. So much so, Shears recently finished his boundary-breaking role as The Emcee in Cabaret, earlier this year, at London’s Kit Kat Club. He continued: “ I think the door is open. It could just be the 20th anniversary – or it could be the beginning of something really exciting. We’re doing it to have fun and enjoy ourselves”.
We’re so jazzed to be performing our debut album in FULL, and as we warned you we have much much more in store (Big hits! Fan favourites! Shenanigans!) Scissor Sisters fuse dance-pop and glam rock within their flamboyantly camp live shows, which are energetic and unapologetically queer. They will perform a 10-date UK tour in May 2025, performing their chart-topping debut, with its legendary tracks ‘Take Your Mama’ and ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’.
Shears reminisced with Independent on the making of their debut, a process which took 2 years to complete. He continued: “It’s funny looking back at these songs… because there’s a real sweetness and innocence to them. At the time, writing this album, we were sort of blindly optimistic about the world”.
‘Scissor Sisters’ the album, peaked at Number 1 on the UK Albums Chart during it release year, achieving five times platinum and being one of the biggest albums of the noughties. For the band, returning to the UK for their reunion tour seems incredibly fitting. Lead guitarist, Del Marquis revealed to Independent: “The UK has always been a place where you don’t really have to fit into something that already exists… They appreciate idiosyncrasy, and appreciate a character, a personality. If anything can be said about our band, it’s that it’s not really like any other band. We didn’t make sense anywhere else, and it’s just like we clicked here”.
The Scissor Sisters forthcoming tour is long-awaited and will see the band dazzle fans with their iconic debut album, it’s one not to miss. Tickets are available here.
