Ever since his early demo days, Perc, real name Ali Wells, has shown numerous ways how to make electronic music differently. He is one of the scenes key figures who tours internationally, owns his own aforementioned label and is respected immensely. He is a man who is always looking toward the future as well as referencing the past to create new forms of dance music. As well as his own label he also regularly records for many others such as CLR, Kompackt, Drumcode, Strobostrobic Artefacts and Ovum. Perc is unique because he does not conform to generic conventions.
He has performed in many legendary clubs across the world such as Berghain, Fabric, Cocoliche in Buenos Aires, Space Ibiza, Tresor and Unit in Tokyo. His sound is best described as a mixtures of era’s classic sounding in parts and fresh in others.
Perhaps a major factors in his unqiue sound is his style of production. The title of his debut album “Wicker and Steel” was an apt description of it, as it made massive waves upon its release gaining him much praise from the electronic music community.
Perc has recorded many remixes from artists such as Factory Floor on DFA, Black Asteroid on Electric Deluxe, Mike Parker on Edit Select and Oscar Mulero on Warm-Up.
Originally hailing from Hertfordshire, Wells began performing at a young age. Starting off performing in indies bands and being inspired the likes of Neds Atomic Dustbin and The Wonder Stuff at the age of just 13, he was an indie teenager until he turned 16. After his older brother introduced him to the 90’s rave scene, he quit playing guitar and started making electronic music.
He released his debut single in 2002, “I Make Nuclear” on the Easy Space label before forming Perc Trax in 2004. He started to develop his dark and throbbing style of dance music, stating influence from groups such as Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle.
