Yesterday, Australian band Jet announced dates for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour which will be the first full tour that the band have played on this side of the world in 15 years. The tour will take place in October of this year and the band will travel across all of the UK’s biggest cities including, but not limited to, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow as well as shows in Dublin and Belfast.
The Aussie rock band are currently touring their home country in honour of the 20th anniversary of their 2003 debut album Get Born, which they have been performing in full across their various gigs. Get Born is their highest charting work, holding the number one spot in Australia after its release and securing its rightful place in the top 20 of the UK’s charts. Following Get Born’s entrance into the world, The Rolling Stones offered Jet a supporting role on their headlining tour in 2003. As well as their own headlining shows for the debut album, the band played over 200 gigs throughout that year. Get Born’s lead single ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ has dominated the scenes of house parties, adverts across the last 20 years and, most notably to much of the UK, appeared in the British classic animated film Flushed Away in 2006.
As for new music from the group, they have just released the new single, Hurry Hurry and are working on their long-awaited fourth album, which is set for release in 2025. The single released on the 9th of May came with a special announcement of a 2 track 7”vinyl in burnt orange which was only limited to 200 copies and sold out almost instantly as noted in an instagram post from the band. The b-side features a track called Un’avventura; a cover of Wilson Picket’s cover of a song originally by Lucio Battisti. Frontman Nic Caster performs on the track in both English and Italian which is a gesture to the last 15 years he has spent living in Como with his wife Pia McGeoch. The songs are not yet released on streaming sites but you can score a free download of the track on their website by signing up to The Jet’s mailing list here.
It’s no surprise that people are delighted at this announcement as fans have been anticipating a new album since September 2016 when the band declared they would be re-forming to support shows for Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band in February 2017 after their original 2012 disbandment. This album will arrive 16 years after the release of Jet’s third studio album Shaka Rock which came out in summer 2009. You can listen to Hurry Hurry below on the Jet’s YouTube channel.
